Florea Radu

born in 1963, in Tirgu Mures , Transylvania .

I am 47 years old in documents , 27 in my soul .
I am a self made painter , member of Mures Association of Fine Arts since 1989 .
I was a sailor for eight years , an engineer officer in the Romanian Merchant Fleet NAVROM , during 1985 and 1992 .
Since 1993 , I work as a radio journalist in the Romanian Public Radio , at the Regional Radio Station of Tg.Mures .

The beginnings and style

Drawing and playing with colours since I remember , together with my passion for sea and mountaineering , formed the spiritual backup for my artistic evolution .

Today, after twenty years as a painter , I am more preoccupied by transcending my inner feelings into an explosion of line and colour, in front of everyday sensations both in relation to human condition and nature as well .

In the beginning , my style was marked in the 90s , by the expressionism of colour discovered first at Van Gogh and as I studied and worked more , I felt attracted towards the artistic expression in the Fauve movement and the German expressionists members of the Blaue Reiter group .

In the last five years, I felt the urge to simplify more the form in the benefit of colour , somehow in the style of action- painting and the American abstract expressionists like Kooning and Pollock .

The series Ikarus – Return to the light , 2009-2010 , presented here , was created after a near-death illness which led me through a total revival experience and is representing my style at its best , for this artistic moment in my new life .

Tomorrow no one can tell .

All that matters is the moment of NOW and the way we chose to live it .

Personal exhibitions

Since 2001 I had personal exhibitions almost every year , in different galleries in Tg.Mures , Sighisoara and Cluj , the main cities of Transylvania as well as in Bucharest , at the Hall of the Romanian Radio .
