Tobias de Haan
In his work Tobias de Haan shows a fascination for architecture, city planning and the changes that take place in the urban landscape. De Haan combines an old technique and visual language with contemporary, imaginary and futuristic themes.

Tobias de Haan was born in 1980 in a Dutch city called Utrecht.
Utrecht, the city Tobias grew up in, with its medieval city center and huge church tower called the Dom Tower, has had an enormous influence in the early artistic expressions of Tobias. In the drawings he made as a child you would often find the city's sky-lines or famous buildings, not only from Utrecht but from all over the world.

After a short period at the art academy of Utrecht in 2001 he started painting as an autodidact. He finished his first painting later that year: Amsterdam in the future.
A very surreal painting of Amsterdam in a distend future with modern buildings build around and above the old city center.

From the first painting created, Tobias de Haan has been using one technique only: oil on canvas, because of the deep and intense colors this can bring and the possibility to paint in layers.

From 2002 on Tobias also started to make still-life paintings.
At first he started to paint still-life paintings only to capture the technique required to make very realistic work,
but with the first still-life a new passion for still-life painting was born.

In 2007 Tobias de Haan was invited to enter the Florence Biennale in Italy, an international art fair where more than 1000 artists participated, he received the fifth price in the art painter category.
