Constantin Vasii

I was born in Romania near the city of Buzau. When I was 16 years old I discovered the amazing works of the famous Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi which later on become one of the main reasons why I took a number of courses at the Romanian school of Arts and Handicraft in Sibiu (Hermannstadt). Later on , my life took a couple of turns and I graduated in horticulture from the Institute of Agronomy in Bucharest in 1978, and hereafter I fled to Denmark in 1988, where I still live today.

I love working with wood because it is a living material. Even after the tree has been cut down, dried, and made into boards, it still has vivid and continuously changing visual expression. Each tree and each kind of wood has unique qualities, and I take the woods symbolism into account, when I begin working on a piece.

In my art I generally try get from an abstract idea to something tangible, and the intension with the pieces of work are to give simultaneous sensorial and visual experiences.

In the last 20 years I have been continuously struggling with myself; maybe one day.....
