 ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As an artist I am passionate about form and light. This is manifested in my work in two ways. I love the human form – to me it is the most beautiful subject and for as long as I can remember I have been trying to capture its wonder in all its shapes, sizes, colour and texture. I do portraits professionally and I love the challenge involved in capturing a unique personality as well as the personal pleasure I derive from my clients’ delight in my interpretation of the subject.

A more recent manifestation of my love affair with form and light is my foray into still life painting. The effect of light on an inanimate object and the elusive quality of life to be found therein truly inspires me. I work in oils as I feel this medium allows me to effectively capture the texture and character inherent in a still life tableau. I am currently combining still life and figurative painting, focusing on the effect of light on the forms.

I have been invited to exhibit in the Fourth Edition of the Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy in December 2003. The Biennale is a cultural event intended to provide an opportunity for artists to participate in a panoramic survey of the recent developments in art worldwide. Artists are chosen solely on merit and in 2001 more than 600 artists from over 54 countries participated. As an emerging artist, this is a wonderful opportunity to exhibit my art in the international arena and to interact with artists and critics from all over the world. My participation in this event is supported with a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund and the Ipswich City Council.
